Cefic to present its vision for a competitive Europe to EU Council Working Party

Cefic will attend the EU Council Competitiveness & Growth Working Party meeting of September 17, along with a few other stakeholders. We are honoured to have been invited to this high-level meeting. Cefic Executive Director René van Sloten will address the working party on the necessity of a European Industrial Policy for the growth of the economy and the transition towards a sustainable society – in all in which the chemical industry plays a large role. 

The Working Party is a preparatory body for the Competitiveness Council and the meeting will be attended by both Member State and European Commission representatives.

Euro Chlor, the European association of chlor-alkali manufacturers, announced at its 2018 General Assembly (GA) held today in Bordeaux, France, that Marleen Pauwels, Euro Chlor’s Science & Regulatory Affairs Director, will succeed Dolf van Wijk as Executive Director at the end of this year. Read more

Chemicals output was up 0.9% between January and May 2018, while chemicals prices rose 2.3% during the same period. Chemicals exports jumped 2.6% and imports leaped 4.1% between January and May. The trade surplus was down during the same period.

Learn all about a new, groundbreaking CO2 emission-cutting project! 
LyondellBasell and Covestro have launched a joint-project , the Circular Steam Project, at their site in Maasvlakte-Rotterdam, the Netherlands. The facility produces propylene oxide (PO) and styrene monomer (SM) used, for instance, in the manufacture of plastics. The project aims at converting the water-based waste into energy. It will reduce CO2 emissions by 140,000 metric tons -- equivalent to taking 31,000 cars off the road. Expected to be completed by 2020, the project will serve as a benchmark for the rest of the chemical industry.
